14th T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival: opening ceremony

The 14th edition of T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival officially begins on Thursday, July 24! At 6:30 PM we kicked things off with a screening of Damián Szifrón’s Wild Tales before which Festival Director Roman Gutek and other guests will open the festival. The Argentine director’s film is a story about trying times, nervous breakdowns, moments of crisis and revenge. Szifrón serves up a comedy with a big dose of dark humor and social commentary. The film will screen two more times: July 31 at 10 PM and August 3 at 12:45 PM.

Festival opening day brings two more exceptional films. At 7:30 PM you can catch Golden Palm winner Winter Sleep, directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan. The film is a fascinating and intimate marital portrait shot among the majestic landscapes of Turkish Cappadocia. It is a psychologically in-depth and culmination-filled journey through human emotions, a film whose steady rhythm immediately fascinates and magnetizes audiences. The film will screen again on July 29 at 6:45 PM.

The evening’s third feature screens at 8 PM - Olivier Assayas’s drama Sils Maria with excellent roles played by Kristen Stewart, Juliette Binoche and Chloë Grace Moretz. It is a refined and ironic portrait of two actresses. One is an experienced artiste who is unable to handle the passage of time (Binoche plays a reflection of herself here) while the other is a rising Hollywood star (Moretz takes on a nearly grotesque role). Sils Maria will screen twice more during the festival, once on July 29 at 12:45 PM and July 31 at 3:45 PM.

DJ Karol Aleksander plays Arsenal

Come relax at Arsenal after an evening filled with cinematic emotions for the first in a series of festival parties inaugurated by resident DJs Romek Rege and Karol Byra (aka Karol Aleksander). His blend of house and disco makes it impossible not to dance. Karol Aleksander has garnered raves from colleagues, producers and musical journalists alike for his cultivation of steaming vinyl sounds. You can often catch his cuts on the air on Polish Radio Channel Four, but at Arsenal you’ll find out that he’s a true volcano of musical energy. Remember that entry to the Festival Club is free of charge – all you need is your Festival Pass or a ticket stub from a film screening with the same date you want to enter the club.
